Abstract
469,814. Switchgear structures. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and JEFFS, W. V. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 3011. [Class 38 (v)] A selecting or isolating switch, particularly for use in ring main connections, comprises for each phase three insulated conductors 2, 3, 4, each conductor having pivotally mounted at or near one end thereof a switch blade 6 capable of being moved into engagement with a contact 7 associated with one of the adjacent conductors. The switch enables three circuits to be interconnected, to be connected selectively in pairs, or to be isolated from one another. In the construction shown, the contact members are immersed in oil in a tank 1, from the walls of which the conductors are supported by insulating bushings 5. The switch blades 6 are connected by links 8 and bell crank-levers 9 to actuating links 11 operated from shafts 13. The upper bushings 5a, 5b for the other phases are arranged in staggered relation, as shown, to obtain the necessary spacings of the outer ends of the conductors 4. For the same purpose, the lower bushings may be arranged at an angle to one another on the longitudinal axis of the tank. The blades 6 may be arranged to engage earthing contacts inside the tank, or separate earthing blades 14 may be provided outside the tank, and adapted to connect contacts 19 on the outer ends of the conductors to the tank.
