Abstract
Material in which mushroom spawn is grown is made by mixing a calcium salt or calciumbearing substance with a substrate or culture medium made from hominy, cracked wheat, whole grain wheat, barley, rye, oats, rice, clover seeds, beans, peas, ground corn cobs, &c. The material is sterilized after adding the calcium salt and then inoculated with the mycelium of mushrooms and incubated. The weight of calcium salt added may be about 1 to 3 parts in 100. Calcium carbonate, nitrate, chloride, or hydroxide may be used. Calcium carbonate may be used in the form of precipitated chalk.
