Abstract
469,700. Mudguards. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and SADLER, S. June 12, 1936, No. 16429. [Class 136 (i)] A wing or mudguard is detachably secured to a vehicle by means of a member (e.g. a metal wire or rod) detachably tensioned over a portion of the wing or mudguard. As shown, the wing 5, which may be made of rubber or metal, is provided with a flanged upper edge 9, 10, Fig. 3, adapted to fit in a channelled lip or flange 2 secured to the vehicle body 1, and this upper edge is also formed with a groove 11 to receive a tension wire or rod 15 forming the attachment member. One end of the member 15 is hooked at 13, Fig. 1, to a bracket secured to the body 1, and the other end is removably engaged with a slotted bracket 12, Fig. 6, on the body 1, a thumbnut 16 on its threaded end effecting the tensioning of the member 15 to hold the wing on the lip 2. Alternatively, the tensioning may be effected by means of a coil spring, resilient block, &c., on the end of the member 15. The tension member 15 may be separate as shown, or may be embedded in the edge of the wing. In the case of metal wings, the flanged edge may be coated with rubber to ensure a silent joint, and the tension member may be similarly coated.
