Abstract

469,467. Photometric apparatus. RAPPAPORT, F. Oct. 21, 1935, No. 28999. Void. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1934. [Class 40 (iii)] In apparatus for measuring the light-absorptive power of a liquid, light is first passed through a known thickness of a standard liquid and falls on a photoelectric cell connected to a measuring instrument, and then light from the same source is passed through the test liquid and falls on the same cell, either the length of the light path in the liquid or the amount of light incident upon it being varied until the photocurrent is the same as before. The apparatus shown comprises a light source 1, collimating lens 2, adjustable diaphragm 3, a transparent vessel 4 to contain the liquid, a transparent immersion vessel 6, a photoelectric cell 9 and measuring instrument 10. The length of the light path is preferably varied by vertical adjustment of the vessel 4, the vessel 6 then being fixed and having the cell 9 directly attached to it.
