[Class 52 (ii)] An adjustable chair comprises a rigid supporting frame on which movable seating parts comprising seat, back-rest and leg-rest, pivoted together, are supported and arranged in such manner that when the chair is moved from sitting to reclining position the seat is tilted backwards and the leg-rest is raised through an angle . greater than that through which the backrest is lowered. Fig. 3 shows a chair having seat 1, back-rest 2 and leg-rest 3 supported by the arm-rests 49 which are pivotally mounted on the rigid frame 15 at 48. When the position of the chair is altered the seat 1 is guided by means of a cam 36 arranged on its underside and co-operating with a cross-bar 50 on the frame 15. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the supporting frame 33 has the arm-rests 34 formed integrally therewith, the back-rest 2 being pivotally supported thereon at 39 and the seat 1 being provided with a guiding surface 36 co-operating with a cross-bar 37, clamping means 38 being provided. Movement of the leg-rest 3 is controlled by a link 35 which joins the leg-rest to the lower end of the back rest. Fig. 9 shows a chair in which a guiding cam surface 53 on the arm-rest 43 co-operates with the apex 44 of the supporting frame 41. A roller may be provided at this point to cooperate with 53. The movable seating parts are pivotally supported on the frame 41 at the junction of the seat and back-rest. Alternatively the supporting point may be situated in the seat, when the chair will function as a rocking chair, clamping means for arresting movement of the seat and leg rest being therefore provided. In the alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the arm-rest 43 slides on the vertex 44 of the frame 41 a pin secured on this apex co-operating with a slot in the arm-rest and selectively engaging sockets suitably disposed in the arm-rest. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a chair having a rigid supporting frame 15 Fig. 15 (Cancelled) on which the seat 1 and back-rest 2 are slidably supported, and provided with a member 16 having a guide slot 17 controlling the movement of a braking member 4. Various methods of controlling the movements of the seating parts of an adjustable chair are also shown diagrammatically. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
