468,997. Electric furnaces. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.- GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. Oct. 19, 1936, No. 28401. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1935. [Class 39 (iii)] The withdrawable graphite heating rod 4<a> is secured at one end to a member 5<a> passing through the furnace wall and supported exteriorly thereof, and the other end of 'the rod is supported in the furnace by a member 6 separate from the furnace wall. The member 5a is of graphite and is supported by a carbon disc 12<a> in a water cooled sheath 11<a> mounted on a carriage 14<a>. The rod is urged against the support 6 by a spring 8<a> acting through a lever 9<a>. A three-phase furnace employs three rods in parallel, triangular or Y formation. The roof and hearth of the furnace may be separable, the heating rods moving with the roof. Specification 431,004 is referred to.
