Abstract

467,883. Dictating-machines. KOSMOGRAPH - DIKTIERMASCHINENFABRIK GES., and RYSICK, A. Oct. 13, 1936, No. 27765. [Class 40 (ii)] A sound recording and reproducing apparatus, particularly for dictation purposes, comprising a turntable 3 supporting a blank 5-across which a recording or reproducing stylus is traversed, has means for automatically lifting the stylus from the record after a predetermined traverse. The sound-box 14 or electric pick-up is provided with both a recording stylus and a reproducing stylus and can be inclined to render either operative by a handle 17 controlling a shaft 18, cam 19, and links 20, 21. The sound-box is floatingly supported by a carrier 9 having an extension 10 passing through the lid 7 and guided on rods 11, 12, a feed screw 13 being employed to traverse the member 10 along the guide-rods. A fixed stop 36 is adapted to rock a lever 29 at a given point in the traverse, thereby projecting an extension 25 on a rod 23 under a roller 26 on the sound-box and lifting the recording stylus 16 clear of the record blank. The roller 26 is of conical form, so that, when the sound-box 14 is inclined for reproduction, movement of the extension 25 is inoperative to lift the stylus from the record. A spring 33 maintains the rod 23 normally retracted. Specification 455,553 is referred to.
