Abstract
467,583. Boot - making machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation) Dec. 19, 1935, No. 35165. [Class 17 (i)] Sole-laying.-Relates to work-positioning means especially intended for sole-laying machines having a relatively stiff shoe bottom engaging member such as a resilient metal plate shaped to conform to the profile of the shoe bottom, and consists in a heel end support provided with a last pin or the like and so mounted that the last may be engaged with the pin while this is well remote from its operative position and the toe support, and then the last, and shoe thereon, may be moved lengthwise and heightwise of the shoe to operative position. The work support is self-adjusting about an axis extending width-wise of the shoe, and is automatically locked at the commencement of solelaying pressure. The last pin 46 is carried by a T-slide 48 laterally adjustable or movable in a block 50 carried by a pair of links 54 pivoted to a pair of links 56 pivoted to a rocking member 24 normally resting on a pin 26 carried by sideplates depending from a fixed head described in Specification 216,937, [Class 17 (i)]. The member 24 is slotted to engage the pin, and has a portion 68 wedge-shaped in section and cooperating with a complementary recess in a block 70 carried by the head, the recess being concentric with the pin 26. A toe end abutment is adjustable along the member 24, and laterally thereof, a pivoted latch 32 and setscrews 40 maintaining it in adjusted position. A pair of springs 58 urge the links toward their extended condition, where the block 50 contacts with a loop at the end of a rod 66, and the links 56 rest on stop pins 64. At this time the bottom pressing member is in its lower position, and the pin 26 at the top of its slot. The last, with a shoe thereon is positioned on the last pin and pushed forwardly until the toe is under the toe pad and the shoe bottom is correctly positioned on the shaped bottom engaging member. As this rises, the parts 68, 70 engage and lock to prevent longitudinal tip of the shoe. A chain passing over a pulley on the head and connected to the vertically moving assembly prevents the member 24 from tipping downwardly at its rear end when in inoperative position. U.S.A. Specification 1,825,704 is referred to.
