Abstract
467,371. Closures for metal receptacles. MAUSER MASCHINENBAU GES. June 2, 1936, Nos. 15464, 15465, and 15466. Convention dates, June 1, 1935, July 5, 1935, and July 17, 1935. [Classes 21 and 125 (iii)] In a tension-ring closure for fixing a cover to a metal receptacle, having a lever pivoted on one end of the ring for drawing the ends of the ring together and provided with an eccentrically mounted pressure member which bears against the inner edge of the cover for pulling the ring against the edge of the receptacle, the lever draws the ends of the ring together by means of a link member, pivoted to the lever, which engages a closure member on the other end of the ring, a plurality of engaging points being provided so that the tension of the ring may be adjusted. A cover c with packing b fits on the edge of the vessel a, and is secured thereon by a tension ring d, the ends of which carry the closure parts e, f. Part e carries the tension lever h pivotally mounted at g. The lever is preferably formed by folding a strip of sheet metal. An elliptical projection l on the lever h presses against the inner edge of the cover in the closed position of the lever. The tension lever also carries a loop m which engages one of a plurality of points n in the closure member f. The axis X-X of the tension loop m produced, forms with the tangent Y-Y at the ring junction point an acute angle on the side remote form the tension lever. When the tension is released the lever h is prevented from swinging too far by engagement of a projection r with an abutment q. If desired a projection on the member f may be provided to engage behind the member e. Holes t on the lever end receive the sealing wire. In a modification the wire loop n is replaced by a piece of strip fitting closely over the parts e, f, and being if desired chamfered downwardly towards the centre of the container to cause it to bear lightly on the members ef. The engagement projection on the link member is hook like in form and engages under the member f as well as in its appropriate slot. A sealing wire may be passed through holes in the link member and the members e, f. A further modification is shown in Fig. XIV, in which the closure parts e, f are provided with eyes 7, 8 to receive a securing pin 9. The eye 8 is open towards the edge of the cover, the portion 10 of the tension lever engaging in the opening. Thus the pin 9 prevents the swinging of the portion 10 into the eye 8 and thus the opening of the tension ring. The projecting end of pin 9 may have a hole 11 for a sealing wire or may be of soft metal which may be flattened to a seal head 12. When closed the tension lever is snapped into the dead position and thus does not tend to spring open.
