467,091. Manifolding-units; lettercards &c. LUZZATTO, R. Dec. 6, 1935, No. 33840. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1934. [Classes 16 and 146 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] In a manifolding tablet or block comprising an assembly of two or more record sheets with copying means interposed therebetween and closed around the outer edges, the copying means consists of a double reproducing surface, partially' or wholly coated with transfer material, one reproducing surface having contact with a lower record sheet and the other having contact with an upper record sheet, so that writing on the upper sheet of the block is recorded also on the reverse side thereof and provides a means for preventing fraud. The record sheets, or some of them, may in some cases consist of a folded continuous web or sheet, or the copying means may be similarly constructed, or the record sheets and copying means may comprise a single continuous web in zigzag folded form. One or both of the external record sheets may be transparent. In the example shown in Figs. 4 to 6, the manifolding-unit consists of two writing sheets 1 and 4, and an intermediate transfer sheet 5 gummed together along the margins 8, and writing is effected on the sheets 1 and 4 on the zones W only. The transfer sheet 5 has transfer material on both sides whereby the writing on the sheet is duplicated on the internal side of the sheet 4, and on the internal side of the sheet 1 in the form of a " mirror " copy, and a similar result is obtained when writing is effected in the sheet 4. The transfer sheet has two differently coloured zones of transfer material on each side corresponding to the zones W and NW on the sheets 1 and 4. The sheets are then separated by cutting along the lines 9. The " mirror " copies are for the purpose of preventing fraud, for example, by effecting writing on the sheets 1 and 4 after the sheets have been separated. In a modification, two transfer sheets and an intermediate copy sheet are situated between the two external writing sheets, but the transfer sheets each have two zones of differentlv coloured transfer material on one side, and a reproducing and a non-reproducing zone on the face contacting the copy sheet, whereby the copy sheet receives copies of the writing effected upon the two external writing sheets, and the external writing sheets receive copies as before. In another modification, the manifolding-unit consists of two external writing sheets, three transfer sheets and two copy sheets. The two outer transfer sheets are the same as in the previous form, but the .central transfer sheet has a reproducing and a non- reproducing zone on each face. In the unit shown in rear view in Fig. 15, there are two writing sheets and a transfer sheet similar to those shown in Figs. 4 to 6, but the sheet 1 is larger than the sheet 4 and gummed thereto along the margins 8. The outer strip 12 is coated with adhesive whereby the unit can be folded about the line 13 and sealed so that the writing on the face sheet 4 cannot be seen. When the strip 12 is removed along perforated lines 11, this action only removing the margin of the sheet 1 and no portion of the sheet 4, the unit can be unfolded; if the sheets are to be separated, the unit is cut along the lines 9, which on the front side of the unit are marked on all four sides. When the sheets are separated the writing sheets 1 and 4 consist of postal letter-cards having gummed strips 15 for sealing purposes after folding along the line 13, and perforated lines 14 for opening purposes after postal transmission. If desired, additional transfer sheets and copy sheets may be incorporated in this unit. In a further modification, consisting of two external sheets (only the top one of which is to be written on), two copy sheets, and three transfer sheets, the transfer sheet in contact with the top writing sheet is coated with transfer material on both sides, and the other two transfer sheets are coated on their lower sides only, whereby the bottom sheet and the two copy sheets receive copies of writing effected on the top sheet, and the top sheet also receives a " mirror " copy on its internal side. The manifolding-unit can be used for postal and telegraphic services, and, if desired, the single sheets of the unit could be post cards or telegram forms. Specification 363,412 is referred to.
