[Class 83 (iv)] In a machine for making wire binders 16, for filing papers, from wire 28 the bent portion of the wire is held by dies 19, 23 on transverse slides 50, 53 actuated by cams. A bending tool 20 pivoted on a cam actuated transverse slide 61 is swung by a fixed roller 65 to engage the wire 28 and to bend it over the outer face of the die 19, whilst moving from the dotted position to the full line position 'Fig. 5. A second bending tool 22 pivoted on a cam actuated transverse slide 71 is then swung by a cam from the dotted to the full line position, Fig. 5 to make a reverse bend about the outer face of the tool 20. The dies 19, 22 are then withdrawn by the cams and a feed slide carrying a spring pressed feed finger is advanced by a cam to feed the wire. The wire is fed from straighteners through guide channels which maintain the wire in flat condition.
