466,456. Ratchet gearing. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 14, 1936, Nos. 22459 and 22460. Convention dates, Sept. 4, 1935 and Jan. 24, 1936. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XL] In pawl and ratchet wheel mechanism in which the pawl 106 is normally out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 105 and is moved into engagement therewith when it is desired to rotate the wheel, it may happen that the pawl engages the edge of one of the teeth and causes damage. To prevent this, a second ratchet wheel 135 is mounted alongside and resiliently connected to the ratchetwheel 105, the arrangement being such that if the pawl now catches the edge of one of the teeth of wheel 135, this wheel is moved forwards until the pawl makes a proper engagement with a tooth of ratchet wheel 105.
