Abstract
466,290. Mordanting photographic silver images. CINECOLOR, Inc. Jan. 2, 1936, No. 121. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1935. [Class 98 (ii)] Silver images are mordanted by treating with a solution of an alkali metal iodide capable of forming a complex salt with silver iodide and subsequently bleaching with a solution containing the same iodide, the concentrations of iodide in the first and second solutions being in the ratio of between two and one-half to one and ten to one, preferably between three to one and five to one. The first solution may be a solution of 120 grams of sodium, lithium, caesium, or potassium iodide in 1 litre of water, and may be applied by immersion, flotation or spraying. The bleaching solution comprises 30 grams of potassium iodide, 4 grams of iodine, and also sodium acetate, aluminium sulphate and acetic acid, in stated amounts, made up with water to 1000 ccs. The film is cleared in sodium bisulphite solution, washed and dyed with a basic dye such as fuchsin, rhodamine, methylene blue or malachite green. Specification 447,412 is referred to.
