465,703. Wireless receiving-apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Aug. 17, 1936, No. 22613. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] Various controlling operations of a wireless receiver such as tuning, volume, &c., may be effected by a single knob 1 secured to a shaft 2 which is rotatable to effect one adjustment and also is capable of lateral movement in such a way as to occupy two or more positions within a cone in space, having its apex at a point of the shaft 2, and is also coupled to adjusting elements of the set to perform at least two controlling operations independently. Rotation of the shaft 2 is transmitted to the tuning shaft 5 through a universal joint 4, while a member 6, loosely mounted on the shaft 2, has two extensions at right angles to each other (of which one only is shown) which extensions have slots engaging levers 7 pivoted at 15 and actuating the volume or other control through a Bowden cable 21, 22. The opening in the receiver panel 28 is closed by a hemispherical member 26, the lateral control movements being friction-loaded by felt insets 27. Thus lateral movement of the knob 1 to left or right will operate the lever 7, movement in the sense at right-angles thereto operating the second lever which is not shown. In any position, rotation of the knob will vary tuning. In a modification, the levers 7 are dispensed with, the member 6 actuating the controls through direct push-pull action, Fig. 3 (not shown).
