[Class 100 (ii)] An address is printed on a record sheet and data associated with the address is recorded on the same sheet by means of a printing- plate provided with address-printing characters and with means, such as perforations, the positions of which determine the data they represent. Each one of a series of stencil-cards 16, Fig. 8, carries a stencil 72, and a part 74 divided by printed lines into rectangles each of which is numbered and may have a printed circle 78 showing where the perforation can be punched. Each rectangle represents an item of statistical information, relating to the addressee according to a code, the address and information being printed on a sheet bearing a printed form corresponding to that on the stencil. The code may be printed on the stencil or on a separate sheet. The stencils are passed through an addressing-machine in which perforating-pins are carried by a plate 96, Fig. 5, spaced above a stationary guide-plate 88 and pressed upwardly against stops by springs 100. Pins 108 are placed in selected coinciding apertures in the plates 88, 96 and are depressed for punching by a soft rubber pad 114 secured to arms carrying an inked impression roller. The pad yields in the case of pins which do not encounter holes in the stencil and presses the remainder through the holes into the sheet beneath the stencil. The part of the sheet under the pins is supported on a rubber pad 120 removably attached to an anvil plate 122 extending from a main anvil. The pins may perforate or may merely indent the sheet, or they may be inked so as to print.
