Abstract

465,065. Drilling-machines. ASQUITH, Ltd., W., O'ROURKE, F., DENNIS, H., and JOHNSON, A. Nov. 1, 1935, No. 30157. [Class 83 (iii)] A drilling or like machine of the kind having a rotatable carrier equipped with a number of tool-holders, any one of which may be brought into engagement with the drill spindle, has a carrier from which the tool holders or adaptors are detachable and individually transferred by the spindle from the carrier, means being provided for temporarily supporting the holders against endwise movement while being engaged by the spindle and when the spindle is being withdrawn. A locking pin J is pulled outwards to permit rotation of the turret or carrier A about the vertical support B. When indexed in the required position the spindle C is fed downwardly to engage the adaptor N<1> which is held temporarily by radially slidable latch members g engaging a flange on a sleeve member p<4>, a ball bearing and compression springs p<1> transmitting the thrust to the sleeve member P fixed to the adaptor. An enlarged portion of the spindle engages lever members Q which act through links and further levers to withdraw the latches and allow the tool to be fed downwardly. On withdrawal a ledge e in the carrier bore arrests the sleeve P of the adaptor.
