465,062. Cleaning tubes. RYLANDS, J. R. Oct. 30, 1935, No. 29957. [Class 99 (ii)] Heat-exchangers having horizontal tubes 2 disposed in vertical tiers are cleaned by scrapers 1 which are hingedly mounted on horizontal bars 4 each connected at its ends to chains 5 passing over pulleys 5<b> positioned above alternate tiers of tubes and at the ends thereof, the rods being reciprocated between the tiers or externally of the end tiers. The scrapers, which may be made in sections and with fingers 3, are provided with projecting V- pieces 7 which, when the corresponding bar 4 is at its uppermost position, coact with depending posts &c. 8 to position the scrapers so that they project outwardly for action on the tubes during the lowering movement ; after passing the lowest tube the scrapers contact with and lie on the floor 6, ready to be lifted clear of the tubes when the direction of movement of the bar is reversed.
