Abstract

339,806. Hubert, C. A. Dec. 21, 1929. Cleaning externally.-The tubes 1 of a heat exchanger are cleaned by brushes &c. 8, Fig 1 and 2, carried upon. endless chains 7 which are mounted upon pulleys 5 disposed at the top and bottom of the exchanger in such a manner that each brush will travel in a cycle up one of the flues, defined by two rows of tubes, and then down the next adjacent flue upon rotation of the corresponding pulleys. The brushes 8 are of such a length that part only of the tubes are cleaned in one cycle, the remaining part of the tubes being cleaned by moving the pulleys .axially along their shafts 3. In a modification, Fig. 3, a single brush 8 is used which travels through all the flues in succession. The brush is carried between a pair of chains 11 which are located on pulleys 10 mounted on a frame 9, the latter being movable along the tubes 1.
