Abstract
Caps, rings, bands, and pellicles generally of regenerated cellulose, cellulose esters and ethers, gelatine, casein, &c., such as are used for sealing bottles and other containers, contain a soluble nitrite particularly an alkali or alkaline earth nitrite in order to obviate rust-staining when in contact with iron surfaces. The nitrite may be dissolved in the dilute glycerine solution in which the pellicles are normally stored; and the amount may be 0,1--3,0 per cent. The solution may also contain a preservative such as chlorinated cresol. In the case of dyed pellicles, the nitrite prevents bleeding of the dye.
