Abstract
464,453. Washing-machines. ARMSTRONG & CO., Ltd., J., and ROWE, E. J. Dec. 19, 1935, No. 35189. [Class 138 (ii)] The casing 1 of a rotary washing-machine is provided with a discharge compartment 19 located at about the normal rinse water level whereby scum is carried upwardly by the rising rinse water, which is admitted at the bottom of the casing, and overflows into the discharge compartment which communicates with a drain pipe 20. The compartment also contains valves 24 which are mechanically connected by the rock-shaft 27 and link-andlever system 37 ... 41 to the mechanism 16 for operating the valves 18 for supplying the hot or cold or mixed rinsing water whereby when the latter valves are closed, as in the washing process, the valves 24 are also closed, but when either or both rinsing valves is/are opened the valves 24 are also opened. The rinsing water is drawn from the main supply pipes 14, separate valves 6 being provided for passing the washing waters through the pipes 4 to the casing. The condition of the rinsing water discharged from the compartment 19 may be inspected by opening a tap 34 in a pipe 33 communicating with the compartment, the tap being positioned above a funnel 35 leading to a drain pipe 36.
