Abstract
Hydrogen halides are added to aryl ethylenes under increased pressure, in some cases in the presence of a solvent such as ligroin, benzene, toluene, xylene, or carbon tetrachloride. An example describes the addition of gaseous hydrogen chloride to a solution of styrene in xylene at 15--20 atmospheres pressure.
