Abstract

463,978. Pots and receptacles for growing plants; treatment of growing plants. ARLIDGE, C. Oct. 10, 1935, No. 27919. [Class 6 (ii)] A metal plant pot or receptacle has a water gallery or trough a at the top communicating with the interior through holes b covered with a filtering medium which regulates the passage of water from the gallery through the holes to the soil in the pot. The filtering medium may consist of compressed felt and hair pressed into position. A loose perforated bottom rests on an inwardly projecting ledge e below which is a downwardly projecting metal band d to raise the pot above the ground. Air holes are provided in the pot and in the band. Peat or loose fertilizing material may be placed on the bottom and over the side air holes c to regulate the supply of air. The pot and the bottom may both be made of galvanized iron. The plant receptacle may be of square, oblong, or other shape. An oblong receptacle is described having a gallery along one side only, but another gallery on the opposite side may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification the pot may be made of clay, asbestos, or cement.
