Abstract
New hydrocarbons and halogen derivatives thereof are obtained by the action of aluminium chloride or other condensing metal chlorides on chrysene, or a halogen chrysene. According to examples: (1) chrysene is treated with aluminium chloride to give probably a 2 : 2<1>-dichrysenyl, which on heating further with the aluminium chloride gives probably a dinaphthoperylene; (2) 2 : 8-dichlorochrysene on heating with aluminium chloride gives probably a chlorodinaphthoperylene; similar products are obtained from monochloro, monobromo, and 2 : 8-dibromochrysene; the new polycyclic hydrocarbons may be oxidized to quinones, intensively oxidized to quinone-carboxylic acids, or nitrated.
