Abstract

463,246. Drying and heating stone &c. SANGWIN, W. Sept. 21, 1935, No. 26243. [Class 34 (ii)] Apparatus for drying and heating stone, slag, and other materials comprises a casing 1 in which the materials descend by gravity, guide members 5, 11 being provided to direct the material in a zigzag path through the casing while being dried by heated gas. The flow of material is obstructed or controlled as desired by rollers 14, 16 which are provided with longitudinal corrugations, flutes, and grooves, and are adapted to be rotated to release the flow. The hot gas enters the casing through an inlet conduit 23 and is withdrawn through outlets 25, its flow through the casing being controlled by dampers 26. The members 5, 11 are shown as being formed by sets of plates arranged in louvre formation to provide passages for the escape of gas or vapour from the material being dried. Valves 18 are provided whereby the flow of material through gaps 15 may be prevented. Partitions 3, 22 divide the casing into two chambers, so that, if desired, material of two different kinds may be dried simultaneously.
