Abstract

462,481. Vehicle doors. THURGOOD, W. L. Oct. 21, 1935, No. 28973. [Class 103 (ii)] A vehicle door 3, adapted to be opened and closed by bodily displacement, is guided at its top and bottom so that in the open position it projects partly or wholly within the vehicle in a transverse direction. As shown, the door consists of an upper glass panel and a lower metal panel fixed in a frame 6 which carries at its upper and lower edges grooved guide wheels 11 adapted to engage transversely and longitudinallyextending sets of rails 13, 14 in the floor and roof of the vehicle. The wheels 11 are carried by forked supports 10, Fig. 3, which are spring-mounted on doorbrackets 9 to avoid rattling. The door may be opened and closed by the driver by means of hinged links 16, 17 connected to the forward edge of the door and to the front part of the vehicle, the common pivot 18 of the links being prolonged upwards to form an operating handle. A slam lock releasable by a Bowden wire and lever on the operating handle 15 may be provided on the door.
