Abstract

461,420. Roller - way conveyers. UNITED ENGINEERING & FOUNDRY CO. Oct. 16, 1936, No. 28163. Convention date, Feb. 3. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A slab or workpiece is pushed from a roller delivery table 2 into or out of a machine such as a rolling mill, or a shears 3, &c. by means of one or a pair of reciprocable pushers 29 contained within and adjustable sideways with the side guides 4 of the roller table. The side guides 4 are moved towards or from each other by a right- and left-hand screw 12 driven by a motor. The pushers 29 are moved forward and retracted each by an hydraulic cylinder 14 sliding over a fixed piston when fluid pressure is directed thereto by a two-way valve. The pushers are constrained to act in unison by racks 37 on their underside gearing with pinion 38 on a common shaft. The pusher nose 29 can be tilted up as shown dotted to clear work moved on by the roller table. The reaction thrust of the pusher and its encasing side guide 4 is stopped by a cross-piece 34 against which the lugs 6 of the guide abut. When used with a shears 3, the pushers 29 may act as gauging stops which periodically hold the work stationary while it is being sheared, the pusher 29 being set where wanted by the measuring marks 51 to gauge the length to be sheared off.
