Abstract

A process for making moulded articles comprises mixing a fluid resinous material with dry fibre, mixing the product with an aqueous suspension of fibre, and removing water from the resulting mix. Sheets may be so made on a paper-making machine. The resin may be of the heat-hardenable phenol-aldehyde type or a plasticized phenolic resin, as an aqueous emulsion or a syrup. The fibre may be wood flour, cotton flock or alpha flock. Mineral fillers and bentonite may be added to the mix. In examples are used (1) a soft resin obtained by refluxing together cresol, resin, tung oil and hexamethylene-tetramine, or (2) a syrup made by refluxing cresol, limed rosin, formaldehyde and ammonia to which is added 1 part of lime.
