460,919. Non refillable bottles. BARLOW, L. P. Aug. 8, 1935, Nos. 22394 and 22395. Convention dates, Aug. 8, 1934 and Jan. 15, 1935. [Class 125 (i)] A non - refillable bottle of the frangible neck type protected by a rubber washer 25 is characterized in that a member 11 is provided in the neck extending above the break so that the washer slips over the break and engages the member 11 to protect the user against injury. The member 11 consists of a hollow cork provided with a metal ferrule 12 which abuts against a shoulder 13 of the bottle neck. The ferrule preferably extends upwards to provide an abutment for the head 16 of a stopper 15 of porcelain or the like. A cement seal 18 and metal cap 19 complete the closure. The bottle neck is spaced from the ferrule 12 to allow free fracture. The bottle is annealed and afterwards a slot 21 is cut in the neck to initiate the fracture. A key 22 having an end 23 elliptical in cross-section is inserted in the slot 21 and rotated to cause fracture. The rubber sleeve 25 closes the slot 21 during vacuum filling of the bottle and further wipes the key part 23 after use. The washer has an index mark to show the position of the slot 21.
