Abstract

460,200. Medical head and body coverings. RYNER, H. July 22, 1935, No. 20746. [Class 81 (ii)] A head covering for applying warmth in the treatment of catarrh and the like comprises a woollen helmet A, completely covering the head and neck except the centre portions of the face, lined or fitted with heat insulating materials such as chamois leather, asbestos, or flannelette, and provided with a covering c over the crown of metal foil. Preferably, the upper part is lined with chamois leather a and the remainder with asbestos or flannelette b. An additional cap may be provided comprising an elastic band d having a padded asbestos cloth crown e, and optional additional pads f. The covering may be used in conjunction with a chest and back protector g comprising two sheets of asbestos connected together by elastic side strips g<1> and by shoulder straps g<2>. Elastic straps may be provided which are applied to the head and carry pads engaging on both sides of the nose, above the eyes, behind the ears, or at the back of the head. The pads may have a roughened surface formed of copper gauze or of hemp twine interwoven with zinc or copper shavings.
