Description

May 13, 1930. T. H. LARSON 1,758,286
FACE TREATING DEVI CE Fi led Dec. 16, 1927 z E JG fiaadare @1290 Milli;
Patented May 13, 1930 PATENT OFFICE THEODORE H. LARSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS FACE-TREATING DEVICE Application filed December 16, 1927. Serial No. 240,351.
This invention relates to an improved face treating device constructed in the form of a mask and having a heating element formed therein whereby the face of a wearer of the device may be heated to produce perspiration to thoroughly open the pores preparatory to applying massaging creams and the like used in facial treatments.
It is an object of this invention to provide a combination mask and heating element for use in facial treatments.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a face treating device consisting of the combination of a mask having an electrical heating element imbedded between the layers thereof.
It is an important object of this invention to provide a face treating device consisting of the combination of a mask and an electrical heating element mounted therein, said mask having the margin of the inner face thereof provided with a suitable marginal rim or pad, which acts to space the inner surface of the mask from the face of a wearer, thereby providing a chamber between the mask and the face of a wearer to permit circulation to take place.
Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.
This invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a person wearlng an improved face treating device embodying the principles of this invention, and showing the position of the heating element in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of he mash having the outer covering removed and showing the position 01' the heating element.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail section of the lower portion of the device taken on the line IIIIII of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary detail section of the device taken on the line IVIV of Figure 1.
As shown on the drawings:
The reference numeral 1 indicates the head of a person wearing an improved face treating device embodying the principles of this invention.
The improved device comprises a front shell or mask 2, shaped complementally to the face of a person and having eye openings 3 and a mouth opening 4. The mask is also provided with a nose portion 5.
The mask is constructed of an outer facing of velvet or other suitable material, provided with a buckram stiffening lining which serves to maintain the mask in proper shape. The device is provided with a rear mask section, shaped complementally to the shape of the front mask section, and comprising a buck ram section 6, having pasted or otherwise secured to the interior thereof a. felt lining 7.
Stitched or otherwise secured on the front face of the inner mask section 6 is an insulated heating element looped across the forehead section of the mask 6 to form a fore head loop 8, the ends of which are conducted downwardly over the cheek portions of the mask section 6 and looped backwardly and forwardly to form cheek sections 9, the ends of which continue downwardly from opposite sides of the mask section 6 and form a lower face or chin section 10. The ends of the wires are twisted to form a cord 11, which leads from the mask and has an electrical plug 12 attached to the end thereof, adapted to be inserted in an electrical socket.
The forehead loop 8 of the heating element is provided with a double insulation 13, while the chin section 10 is provided with double insulation portions 14. The rear mask section 6 is engaged in the front mask section 2 and is spaced therefrom by the heating element to afford a chamber 15 between the front and rear mask sections.
The margins of the front and rear mask sections are secured together by means of a binding cord or tape 16. Secured around the margin of the felt lining 7 of the inner mask section is a felt pad I7, adapted to seat against the face of a wearer and hold the inner felt lining 7, spaced from the wearers face, so that a circulating chamber is provided between the mask and the face of a wearer.
Attached to the side margins of the front mask section are the ends of an elastic band 18 or the like, adapted to fit around the head of the wearer to hold the face treating device in place.
The improved face treating device may be readily engaged on the face of a wearer and is held in place by the elastic band 18. The plug 12 is then engaged in an electric socket, so that the heating element between the buck,- ram linings of the device will become heated and gradually heat the face of a wearer, causing the pores of the skin to open and produce perspiration.
" After the face has been thoroughly heated and cleansed by the applicaton of heat from the face treating device, the device may be removed and theface treated with massaging creams and the like, depending upon the facial treatment which is to be given.
I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I, therefore, do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. A face treating device comprising a front mask section constructed of velvet, a buckram lining therefor, a rear mask section constructed of buckram, a felt lining therefor, an electrical heating element secured to the rear mask section, an electric cord and plug connected with said heating element,
means for securing the mask sections together to enclose the heating element, a marginal pad formed on the felt lining of the rear mask section to space the mask from the face of a wearer, and means connected to the connected mask sections to permit the device to be held in position upon the face of a patient.
2. A face treating device comprising front and rear mask sections, an electrical heating element positioned between said mask sec:
tions, a cord and plug connected withsaid electrical heating element, means for securing said mask sections together, and a marginal pad attached to the connected mask sections and adapted to contact the face of a patient to space said mask from the patients face for providing a circulating chamber between the rear mask section and the patients face. i i
3. A face treating device comprising a mask, an electrical heating element therein, means for connecting said heating element with a source of electrical energy, and a pad attached to the mask to hold the same spaced from the face of a patient to aflord a circulat-in g chamber between the mask and the face of the patient.
4. The combination with a face treating mask, of a heating element mounted therein, and a marginal pad formed on said mask to hold the same spaced from the face of a wearer.
5. The combination with a face treating mask, of an electrical heating element mounted in said. mask, said heating element arranged with cheek portions, adapted to apply a greater amount of heat to the cheeks of a patient than to the otherparts of a'persons face and means on the mask for providing a circulating chamber between the mask and the face of a person wearing the mask.
6. A face treating device comprising a mask, means for spacing the same from the face of a wearer, a felt inner facing for said mask, buckram linings between the mask and said felt facing, and a heating element mounted between said buckram linings.
7. A face treating device comprising. a front mask section, a rear mask section, a heating element mounted between saidma'sk sections to hold the same spaced from one another, means for connecting the mask sections to enclose the space between said sections, a peripheral pad secured to the rear mask section, adapted to hold said mask section spaced from the faceof a patient wear THEODORE H. LARSON.
