Abstract

Vitamin concentrates or synthetically produced vitamins are incorporated in carbonic acid-evolving compositions of the type containing substances of acid reaction such as tartaric or citric acids or acid sodium phosphate in conjunction with one or more carbonates, for example, sodium bicarbonate. The vitamin concentrate in powder form may be added to a mixture of the other constituents, but preferably it is first mixed with part or all of the acidic constituent. Thus, the vitamin concentrate may be added to a solution of the acid substance which is evaporated to dryness. Or an alcoholic solution of the vitamin may be mixed with acid, a small quantity of water added, and the mixture evaporated to dryness. In an example, a vitamin-containing fruit extract in alcoholic solution is added to tartaric acid, evaporated to a semi-fluid mass, and desiccated under reduced pressure at 40 DEG C. whilst being stirred. Evaporation is carried out in the presence of an indifferent gas such as carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Mixing of the product with the other constituent may also be effected in an indifferent atmosphere, and the preparation may be stored in such an atmosphere. The vitamin is protected against decomposition by the acid, and also by the carbon dioxide atmosphere.ALSO:Vitamin concentrates or synthetically produced vitamins are incorporated in carbonic acid-evolving compositions of the type containing substances of acid reaction such as tartaric or citric acids or acid sodium phosphate in conjunction with one or more carbonates, for example, sodium bicarbonate.
