459,223. Making washers. GILL, H. A., 1, Chancery Lane, London.-(Illinois Tool Works; Chicago, U.S.A.) May 23, 1934. No. 15452. [Class 83 (ii)] [See also Group XXV] A washer is formed with overlapping prongs on its outer or both margins by expanding the material at these margins without altering the diametrical dimensions of the washer. The margins are afterwards cut to form radial prongs. In the preferred method, the margin of the washer is first formed with undulations, which are then slit at their crests B. Adjacent edges 26 of these are moved axially and the undulations flattened to provide over-lapping prongs 22. The amount of overlap is substantially uniform over the radial extent of the prong. This method may be applied to the inner margin only. Specification 315,424, [Class 89 (i)], is referred to.
