Abstract

Liquids and fused masses are degasefied by the application of sound waves of audible frequency, i.e. 20--20,000 cycles. The waves may be generated by magnetic or electrodynamic telephones, magneto - striction transmitters, syrens, quartz oscillators, &c. These devices may in suitable cases be immersed in the liquid itself and in other cases coupled to a repeater immersed in the liquid. For example, fused aluminium may be treated by a magnetostriction transmitter to which is attached a refractory porcelain rod dipping into the liquid.ALSO:Fused metals are degasefied by the application of sound waves of audible frequency, i.e. 20-20,000 cycles. The waves may be generated by a magnetic or electrodynamic telephone, a magneto-striction device, a syren, a quartz oscillator, &c., and transmitted to the fused mass by means of a repeating-device such as a refractory porcelain rod immersed in the mass. The treatment of fused aluminium is described.
