[Class 131] A pad adapted to be moistened with lotion or water and applied about a preformed tress during permanent waving is provided with an absorbent composed of a number of superposed sheets of absorbent material which are in contact with each other only over definite small areas thus providing pockets, spaces, or recesses therebetween adapted to accumulate a surplus of liquid when the absorbent is moistened. The absorbent may comprise sheets of crimped, crÛped, embossed, indented or corrugated paper, which may be secured, together by embossing, an adhesive, staples clips or sewing, and may be provided with a pliable backing sheet, e.g. of parchment, metal foil or cloth. The pads may be adapted for use with tresses wound helically or in flat superposed layers, and may be combined with exothermic heating sachets.
