Abstract
458,444. Speed governors. CREED & CO., Ltd., and SALMON, R. D., Telegraph House; Croydon, Surrey. June 21, 1935, No. 17888. [Class 57] [See also Group XL] A telegraph transmitter and receiver are capable of running at two different speeds selected by means of a switch, the fastei speed being used during rush hours and the slower speed at other times, in order to save wear and tear. The governor at each station may be of the kind described in Specification 292,210, [Class 57], and may comprise a disc D carrying two centrifugally controlled contacts A, B, which respectively close at slower and a faster speed. When contact B is short-circuited by a switch, contact A takes control, being shunted across a resistance in series with the motor. When the switch is opened, however, so that the two contacts are in series across the resistance, Fig. 3 (not shown), contact B takes control and the motor runs at the higher speed. Connections are made by means of slip-rings on the underside of the disc.
