457,674. Weftless cord fabrics ; compound sheet materials. NEY, M. C., 56A, Nelson Road, Killara, New South Wales, Australia. Aug. 20, 1935, No. 23391. [Class 140] A binding ribbon or tape, e.g. for tennis racket frames, comprises a plurality of lacquercoated cords bonded together in contiguous parallel relation. The cords may be of hemp, cotton, or silk, may be differently coloured, and one or more may be provided with wire cores, e.g. copper or piano-wire E, Fig. 7. The bonding adhesive may be transparent and flexible, e.g. transparent lacquer with or without a gum or resin. The ribbon or tape may be adhesively mounted on a flexible backing, e.g. fabric or regenerated cellulose foil. As shown, lacquered cords drawn from spools H, around spacing beams K and M and tensioning rollers L, are brought together between converging guides N and pressure rollers O, are passed over a felt-covered, adhesive-applying roller P, and dried with the aid of air-blasts U while passing around a drum T, the resulting ribbon being smoothed by fluted rolls J.
