Abstract
457,561. Boot - making machines. MILLMAN, C. H., and DOVE, G. H., Standard Works, Evington Valley Road, Leicester. Sept. 13, 1935, No. 25430. [Class 17 (i)] Uppers, machines for.-In machines for forming outwardly turned flanges on the uppers of boots and shoes, the upper is clamped between two mould parts by the operation of a treadle or other manually operated means, whereupon an electrically driven thruster is brought into operation to move a wiper past the margin of the clamped upper to form the outwardly turned flange. A fixed inner mould b co-operates with outer mould members c pivoted together and linked to a lever h, cam members closing the members c on the upper or the inner mould as the lever h is swung by, toggle links i resiliently connected to a treadle e. A wiper m backed by a cam q is secured to the piston rod of an electrically-driven thruster n comprising a pump forcing oil beneath the piston, a small hole in which allows return when the pump is stopped. When the upper has been clamped by partial depression of the treadle, full depression actuates a switch o to start the pump. The wiper m forces the upper margin into a recess r in the outer moulds, and travels beyond the moulds so that these can separate to release the upper when the treadle is released.
