Abstract
Silver halide emulsions are sensitized by treatment with a thione or selenone of a heterocyclic nitrogen compound consisting either of an a -thione or a -selenone of the general formula <FORM:0457527/IV/1> wherein X is S or Se, Y is S, O, Se, = <FORM:0457527/IV/2> , or --CH=CH--, R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups, and A and B are H, alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl groups or together form part of a mono- or polycyclic arylene residue, or of a g -thione of a heterocyclic nitrogen compound of the pyridine-quinoline series. The bodies are prepared by alkylating the corresponding mercaptan or selenomercaptan with, e.g. methyl sulphate and caustic soda, heating the resulting thio- or seleno-ether with an alkyl sulphate or alkyl paratoluene sulphate and boiling the product with pyridine.
