Abstract
456,196. Knot-tying devices. POEGE, M., 28, Centralstrasse, Uster, near Zurich, Switzerland. Nov. 25, 1935, No. 32580. [Class 112] [See also Group XXV] In the tying of a true weaver's knot, the thread lengths a, b are held in clamps, the thread end a<1>, Fig. 1, is bent round a rod 1 and the thread end b is bent round the rod 1 and a stationary knotting bill 2 at right angles with the rod. The two thread ends, after being passed, Fig. 3, between the thread lengths a, b are separated by a part 5, the thread end a<1> being held by the shank 6 of the part 5 so that it is placed between the tips of the cutting members 3, 4 of the bill and the thread end b<1> is placed between the cutting and clamping members of the bill. Prior to this last stage, the rod 1 is withdrawn from the concatenation and when a pull is exerted on the thread length b the knot is stripped off the bill, Fig. 5. If the part 5 is removed both thread ends are placed between the clamping parts of the bill and the knot shown in Fig. 7 results. A helical thread carrier 8, mounted to rotate about the rod 1, has a point 24 and a double thread clamp 9. A second thread carrier 11, mounted on a cross spindle 38 has a thread clamp 10 at its tip. The thread lengths are passed by hand into separated slots having thread clamps 13, 14 and the thread ends are carried, on either side of a separating plate 12, over to thread clamps 15, 16. Behind these clamps are a pair of cutting discs which remove the further parts of the thread ends. The thread end a<1> in this action passes into the clamp 10 and the end b<1> into the upper of the two clamps at 9. Although the thread end bl has been carried on the upper side, Fig. 9, of the plate 12, the shape of the upper support 22 for the rod 1 causes the thread to slide down the lower side of the rod 1 as the thread end is tightened into the clamp 15. When the finger lever 44 is depressed, the thread carrier 8 takes the thread end b<1> under the knotting bill 2 and the carrier 11 having lifted the thread end a<1>, places that thread in the lower of the two clamps on the carrier 8. Continued movement completes the tying operation as previously described. The rod 1 is drawn downwardly, by connection with a lever 67, to free it from the partly tied knot. The spindle 38 of the carrier 11 is rotated by a toothed quadrant 60 actuated by a sleeve concentric with the rod 1 and reciprocated by a link 70 and lever 66. The cutting and clamping jaws of the knotting bill are actuated by a rod 72 and the lever 67. The levers 66, 67 are actuated by cam slots engaged by crank pins on the main bevel wheel 52. This wheel is rotated by means of a flexible band wrapped round its hub and connected to the thumb lever 44. A heel 74 on the carrier 11 in its return movement after the knot is tied, pulls down the severed thread waste which then falls on to a conical shield 75 rotating with the carrier 8 and the waste is ejected centrifugally through a hole in the casing. The thread clamps 9 and 10 are shown in Figs. 14 and 15. The loose clamping jaws 28, 29 and 34 slide on pins 30, 31 and 36, 37 carried by the fixed jaws 26, 27 and 33 and the pressure of the springs 32, 35 is applied to the jaws in front of the forward pins.
