Abstract
456,048. Leading-in conductors for electric discharge apparatus. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Jan. 24, 1935, No. 2400. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 26, 1935]. [Class 39 (ii)] An electric discharge device having a sealed evacuated envelope includes a metal portion through which at least one electrode lead or support is taken, the lead or support being supported by and insulated from the metal portion, and the insulating joint between the lead or support and the metal portion is closed in a vacuum tight manner on the side thereof remote from the interior of the envelope, whereby the vacuum seal is relieved of thermal and mechanical stress taken up by the insulating joint. In one form, a lead passes through a metal wall in an insulating bushing, which is rendered vacuum-tight by sealing material such as glass, enamel or sealing-wax, applied externally. In the form shown, the lead 3 passes through an insulating bushing 6, 7 and is screwed to a metal cap 10. The space between the cap 10 and a similar projection 9 on the wall is sealed up with glass 11. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the glass seal 11 is replaced by a porcelain cylinder screwed on to the lead 3 and coated externally at each end with metal such as copper. The parts 9, 10 are soldered to the coppered portions.
