Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 27, 1935]. [Class 83 (iii)] A boring-machine comprises a turret a of polygonal section rotatable about the axis x, x and having carriers b for boring-bars c slidably mounted on each of the flat faces a<1>. The work pieces f are inserted in bearings e and a driving headstock d as each face' arrives at the loading station and boring proceeds on the other faces during rotation of the turret. The carriages bare slidable between guides h on the turret which are formed integral with end plates h<1>, the feed screws i for the carriages abutting on these plates so that the feeding pressures are self-contained within the guides h. The boring-bars at one end are guided by the hollow headstocks d and at the other end by supports g. Rings k surround the turret on the plates h<1>, the headstocks d and the supports g, and serve to mount the turret rotatably in cradles l on the machine bed m, rotation of the turret being caused by teeth on one or more of the rings k engaging a hand or motor driven pinion. The headstocks d are driven by motors which are stopped at the loading station. The machine bed is provided with a flange m<1> so as to form the bed into a tank for the recovery of lubricant employed on the boring-bars. If the turret a has three sides only it is not rotatable, and the construction of the headstock is described in Specification 448,893.
