455,277. Drying or cooling apparatus. CO - OPERATIVE WHOLESALE SOCIETY, Ltd., 1, Balloon Street, Manchester, and SIBBALD, A. J., 52, Manor Hill, Birkenhead. April 12, 1935, No. 11310. [Classes 29 and 34 (ii)] Apparatus for drying and/or cooling granular materials comprises an endless perforated conveyer which conveys the material through a chamber divided into two series of compartments by baffles located above and below the conveyer, drying or cooling air being supplied to the compartment at the discharge end of the conveyer and being also supplied directly through inlet openings to one or more of the other compartments. In the construction shown, an endless conveyer a of woven wire carries the material to be treated through a chamber f divided by transverse baffles j, i into compartments. Air is blown into the endmost compartment through a shutter-controlled orifice l and passes by a tortuous path through the chamber f in countercurrent to the movement of the material. Air is also blown through one or more similar orifices in the other compartments. Further openings may be provided in some or all of the compartments to permit air to escape. The upper run of the conveyer a is supported by rollers d some of which are arranged close to the baffles i to prevent contact of the conveyer with the baffles.
