454,820. Emergency fittings on aircraft. SHORT BROS. (ROCHESTER & BEDFORD), Ltd., and GOUGE, A., Seaplane Works, Rochester, Kent. Dec. 19, 1935, No. 35206. [Class 4] [See also Group XXIX] Apparatus for discharging fuel from aircraft comprises an outlet pipe communicating with a fuel tank contained in wings which extend across and above the aircraft fuselage or other aircraft body and which is located near one side of the body and communicates with an outlet in the side of the body near its bottom. A valve at the lower end of the pipe has an operating spindle or device extending through the pipe and being operable from the exterior. As shown, a.n outlet member a is fixed to a fuel tank b and forms an oblique seating for a valve body c<1>. The body c<1> carries a seating c<4> for the member a and a seating c<5> for a mushroom valve d mounted on a ball d<1> on a hollow valve spindle d<2> which slides but is held from rotating in a member c<6>. The valve is raised from its seat on rotation of a disc f which carries a nut e held from axial movement and engaging the screw-threaded end d<3> of valve spindle d<2>. The valve spindle is provided with a shoulder d<4> adapted to engage a washer d<5> to prevent leakage of fuel when the valve is open. A flange c<8>is provided, a slot C<9> giving access to a grub screw c<10> for locking a cup c<11>. The collar c' is filled with grease and a grease cup e<1> is provided. The valve is formed with a flange c<12> attached by a hose connection g to a pipe h extending down through the hull i to a discharge opening k. Specification 433,795 is referred to.
