Abstract

1,091,444. Valves. CHADBURNS (LIVERPOOL) Ltd. Dec. 31, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1965], No. 874/65. Heading F2V. A valve suitable for dispensing beer from pressurized containers and arranged to prevent excessive frothing comprises a conical closure member 16 urged by spring 23 into contact with a conical bore 11. A layer of rubber 17 is bonded to the closure member and radial screws 36 guide the movement of the latter. Rotation of a handle 28 causes axial movement of cap 27 through threads 25, 26, one of the threads optionally being replaced by pin co-operable with the other thread. Initial rotation of the handle causes resilient disc 29 to abut the end of the stem 15 of the closure member. Thereafter, further rotation of the handle unseats the closure member from the wall of the bore and allows flow from inlet 12 to outlet 34 via annular chamber 14. Radiused grooves 35, 35a in spout 32 and the closure member respectively assist convergence of the flow without turbulence. Rotation of the handle in the opposite direction allows spring 23 to seat the closure member and unseats disc 29 to connect the outlet to vent port 18a to prevent drips.
