Abstract
454,455. Gear pumps. HOUSLEY, W. G., 10, Fernhill Court, Richmond Road, Kingston-on-Thames. June 26, 1935, No. 18250. [Class 110 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] A rotary gear pump for operating compressed air or vacuum servomotors on a vehicle is driven by the propelling engine or motor of the vehicle. Brakes or other control gear may be operated. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, a gear pump a is mounted in the crank-case b of the vehicle engine and is connected to a vacuum tank (not shown) by a pipe and a bore g, the inlet f being above the oil level in the crank-case. The pump is lubricated by means of an oil duct d, and a non-return valve h prevents oil passing out through the bore g when the pump is not working. The air delivered by the pump is discharged through a pipe k below the oil level. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a gear pump M driven by the propelling electric motor (not shown), of the vehicle, draws air from a vacuum tank p and discharges it through a pipe R and past an oil-filter t, the pump being lubricated through a pipe n from an oil tank l to which the oil discharged through pipe R escapes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 442,068.
