Divided out of 454,379. [Class 100 (iv)] [See also Group XIX] Index type-wheel machines.-To reduce the size of a ticket printing and issuing machine used, for example, on public vehicles, the drums of the counter employed for totalling the fare values are mounted on the shaft carrying an adjustable type member, the said counter being operated during an actual ticket printing and issuing operation. The differential totalizer comprises a pawl adapted to be tripped by a stop which is positioned with the fare value type drum. Visible indicator drums 13, 21, 22, 26<a>, 31 .. 34 are associated with the following printing drums, fare 5, stage 18, 19, class 26, serial number 27 .. 30. Additional printing drums are provided for the date 23, " in " and " out " journeys 24, and counters 53 .. 56 are provided for totalizing the values of the transactions. The various drums and counters are distributed as shown on three shafts 1, 2, 3, and on rotation of the operating handle 11 the ticket is printed and fed out of the machine between rollers 60, 61, the latter being driven through a gear 62 and a one-direction spring clutch 63. The finger knob 12 is movable, independently of the handle 11, for setting the fare type drum 5. First the knob 12 is depressed to engage toothed parts 10, 9, the knob being then turned to rotate the drum 5 through the train 10, 9, 7, 8, 6, 1. A stop member 57 is set simultaneously with the drum 5 and is used to trip a pawl 46, which is fitted with a humped spring latch 47. When the handle 11 is rotated to print and issue a ticket, it drives through gearing a wheel 40 and bracket 45 carrying the pawl 46 which has a nose 46<a> engaging a crown wheel 48 for driving the units drum 53 of the counter. This action continues until the tail 46b of the pawl encounters the stop 57, whereupon the pawl is tripped out of engagement with the wheel 48 which comes to rest whilst the bracket continues for the remainder of the revolution, an abutment 58 finally restoring the pawl to engagement with the wheel 48. On rotation of the handle, a crank 15 oscillates a lever 16 which (a) operates a platen (not shown) to press the ticket on to the type, (b) rotates a toothed segment 64 to operate the feed roller 61, and (c) reciprocates an arm 39 to operate the serial counter drums. Specification 454,379 is referred to.
