24,968. Ohmer, J. F. Oct. 27. Index type-wheel machines with printing- surfaces for tickets; web-feeding and platenimpression arrangements; line-spacing mechanism; inking - roller arrangements. - A machine for printing tickets and registering the number issued and the total value thereof includes the following features:-(1) The date is printed on the ticket strip by type - wheels 11, 18 and on the record strip by type - wheels 12, 19; these typewheels are interconnected by pinions on the shafts 17, 24 and are set by drums 28, 29 through sleeves and spur-wheels 34, 35 in known manner. In some cases, however, it is desired to use the type-wheels 12, 19 to print times, for which purpose the hours are marked between the months on the wheel 12, and the shafts 17, 24 are then omitted and separate setting-devices similar to the drums 28, 29 are provided for the type-wheels 11, 18 on the opposite side of the machine. The class of ticket is printed by type-wheels 25, 26 attached to the shaft 10, Fig. 2, and set by a disk 30, attached to the shaft 33, through spurwheels 36, 27. The destination and price of the ticket are printed on the ticket and record strips respectively by composite drums 42, 43 mounted on a sleeve 44 running loose on the shaft 10, and set through gearing connected to the shaft 45, on which is mounted the setting- drum 49 and a serrated cam 70 engaging a spring-controlled detent 51<a>. The price-printing portions of the drums 42, 43 are removably attached to the destination portion so as to be interchangeable in case the price is varied. The number-printing wheels 37 for printing the serial number on the record strip and ticket respectively are actuated by transfer-wheels 38 in the usual manner, the shaft 39 carrying the wheels 38 being actuated every time a ticket is issued by a ratchet-wheel 100 and link 103 connected with the total counter C. Certain portions 138 of the frame extend to the printing position and are provided with type to mark the number of the issuing-machine. Identification keys 137 having type at their ends are inserted by the operator before issuing tickets. (2) The printing-mechanism is operated from the main handle 87<a> attached to the shaft 57 through a crank 132<a>, link 133, pawl 131, ratchet-disk 130, and spur-wheels 127, 128. The shaft 109 carrying the wheel 127 is mounted in frames 7, 8, 9, which also support the paper rolls 110, 111, the platen 106 pivoted at 107, and the stripfeeding rolls 113,.114, and are slidably removable from the machine through the door 135. At each return movement of the operating- handle, the shaft 109 is turned through one complete revolution. Cams 108 lift the platen with the paper strips against the type and a toothed disk 121 drives a toothed disk 120 through a complete revolution and thereby feeds the paper strips. The feed-rolls 114 for the record strip are small and feed the strips only a short distance, after which it is coiled in the casing, while the feed-rolls 113 for the ticket strip, being of larger diameter, feed a complete ticket out of the slot 134. Spring-operated pressure rolls 116 are mounted opposite the rolls 113, 114. The feed-rollers 113, 114 are provided with serrated edges. Below the ticket-counting and total-receipts type-wheels 51, 98, &c. is a pivoted platen 140, supported in cams 142 on a shaft 143, and by turning a knob 144 an embossed impression of the totals may be made on a strip inserted through a slit 145. (3) The inking-roller 122 is pivoted at 124 and is dragged over the types by a pin 126 on the disk 121 and then released and retained by a spring.
