Abstract

Oxazine dyes are made by treating a 1,4-benzoquinone derivative containing sulpho-groups prepared from a sulphonated aminodiaryl, aminodiarylether, aminodiarylsulphide or aminodiarylurea of the formula <FORM:0454302/IV/1> wherein R and R<1> stand for a sulphonated diaryl-, diarylether-, diarylsulphide- or diarylurea radical and X and X<1>, stand for hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, or halogen, with sulphuric acid, chlorosulphonic acid or fuming sulphuric acid or with an alkaline condensing agent, preferably in presence of an organic or inorganic oxidizing agent. The starting materials are made by condensing in water or alcohol, if desired in presence of an acid-binding agent, 1,4-benzoquinone or a derivative such as toluqinone, dichlorobenzoquinone or chloranil with a sulphonated aminodiaryl, aminodiarylether, aminodiarylsulphide or aminodiarylurea or a substitution product thereof.
