Abstract
N-N<1> dialkyl arylene diamines, in which the arylene group has a benzene nucleus, and the alkyl groups may be aryl-substituted, may be prepared by reacting hydroquinone or a chlorphenol with an amine, or an arylene diamine with a ketone in the presence of a reducing agent, e.g. formic acid. The alkyl substituents specified range from N-N<1> dimethyl to N-N<1> diamyl.ALSO:Indiarubber is preserved from deterioration by incorporating in the rubber a N-N1-dialkyl arylene diamine. The arylene group has a benzene nucleus, and the alkyl groups are acyclic, but may be aryl-substituted. The preserving agents may be prepared by reacting hydroquinone with an amine, an arylene diamine with a ketone in the presence of a reducing agent, or a chlor-phenol with an amine.
