[Class 4] An aeroplane comprises a single fuselage, the transverse sections of which have a horizontal axis the length of which constantly increases towards the rear, and a vertical axis which varies to give an aerodynamic profile, of non-lift for the line of flight adopted at high speeds, the airscrews being arranged at the trailing edge of the fuselage. As shown, the width of the fuselage at the tail is 85 to 90 per cent of its length and the fuselage has elliptical or approximately elliptical crosssections. The lay-out of the fuselage includes passenger seats 4, pilots cockpit 5, winding drums 8 and engine 26 for the variable area wings, fuel tanks 9, lavatories adjacent enclosures 10 which receive, when retracted, an undercarriage, an engine room with a cabin 11 for the mechanics, a luggage compartment 21 and chambers 22 to receive, when retracted, an undercarriage. Engines 14 .. 17 drive two pairs of airscrews 18, 19 and, to facilitate cooling, radiators 31 are provided. The variable area wings 24 form a braced structure carrying at its lateral extremities fins 29 and control surfaces 28. Ailerons 30 are adjustable together or differentially and adjustable stabilizing-surfaces 32 are provided. Machine-gun turrets 34 may be provided and the fuselage is made in three sections to facilitate conversion for military purposes. The front portion may be releasable for controlled parachute descent.
